Do you have website envy?
Maybe you’ve just joined a new online networking group for solopreneurs like you, and you’ve been checking out the websites of your new online friends. Their sites all look so professional, beautifully presented and inviting…then you look at your own…
It falls so short…you sigh with frustration, you have no idea what to do to change it, and it just feels so overwhelming.
Don’t worry, this is such a normal situation and there IS an answer…
3 Steps to Website Strategy
Develop a plan with action steps that you can follow so you can reach the place you want to be – where you can say I LOVE my website and can’t wait to share it!
1. Start with Why
Reconnect with your passion – why is it that you love what you do and why is it so important that you share your work with the world?
When I worked with John in his Website Strategy Session he was amazed to find how he reconnected with clarity to the passion he has for helping educators make learning the best possible experience for young people.
This first step is guaranteed to get you fired up!
2. Connect with your Perfect People
How do your ideal clients, or Perfect People currently find you? This could be offline, online, a mixture of both, as well as through personal recommendation.
Think about how they reach your website to find out more…what do they want to find out, what words, images, offerings will resonsate with them the most?
You want to plan your website to be appeal to your audience, rather than be all about you.
3. What do YOU want them to do?
In a ideal world, what do you want your Perfect People to do when they visit your site? (No, not buy from you immediately, although that would be lovely! If they don’t know you yet you will need to build up trust first).
How are you using your site to help them have faith in you. Do you have any material to share with them for free (an audio recording or document that has a solution to a common problem they experience?) This could be a great free resource to share for new subsribers to your List. (You DO have one right?!)
Or maybe you offer a free Discovery Call to give people a taster of your actual service and you want to encourage them to book?
Ensure that your visitors’ next step (your Call to Action) is crystal clear – add a link with words like “click here” or “sign up for articles just like this” – it may seem over-obvious to you, but there is nothing worse than visiting a website and not knowing what to do to find out more.
Once you have answers to these 3 questions you can start to take steps to re-develop your site (either yourself or hiring someone to do it for you) so it engages your Perfect People, builds their trust in you, and ultimately makes it easy for them to pay money to work with you.
