I had a research call with a coach who would definitely be one of my Perfect People a few weeks back, to find out where she was in developing her own website, where she was getting stuck and the solutions she was looking for. (Research is the absolute BEST way of finding out what your tribe want, and I highly recommend it).
One of her sticking points was she had no idea where to start with design – so if you are feeling this way know you are not alone!
What comes to mind when I say the word “creative”?
Someone who can draw or paint, writes novels, a singer, dancer or actor? If you have a narrow definition like this, then no wonder you might feel you fall short! Then of course there are beliefs we have held since we were small – if an adult ever criticised a drawing or story you wrote in school, you might still be holding on to the idea that you are NOT creative.
No wonder you feel stuck when you are faced with putting together a website – which in essence seems an entirely “creative” venture!
Maybe you think that to be able to design your website you need to instinctively know what combination of colours and fonts looks good, and if this is just not your way of looking at the world it can be a daunting task.
Having worked with Bespoke Website clients in the past who struggled with articulating the elements of design they liked, I’ve found another way that makes the process so simple (and fun!)
The secret ingredient is Archetypes
Last year I stumbled upon Cerries Mooney online (I think I followed a link somewhere as you do). Her background is in design but she approaches it from a completely different perspective – Archetypes.
Uncovering your primary archetype allows you to understand why you subconsciously feel attracted to certain brands on a gut level – why they feel magical to you. And gives you a method to use these magical elements in your own business branding and website design. Take Cerries’s free test to discover your archetype here.
I used the process when I was re-branding my own site at the end of last year. My graphic designer immediately “got” me and came up with my logo in her first set of ideas. (Can you see where it came from in my mood board above?)
Over to you
I have taken the initial test and gone on to work with Cerries further to uncover my secondary archetype – I’m an “Alchemist” and “Creator” – reading the results felt like I was looking into my own soul! Have you taken the Archetypal Test? What was the result and does it feel like it “fits” you? Do share your thoughts in the Comments below…
In the design module of “I Wish I Loved My Website” we will take the Archetypal Test further by using the results to create your own unique Pinterest “mood board” which will be the starting point for your website design.
Whether you want to give this to a graphic designer to create your logo, or simply use the colours and images to create a website that feels like it really fits you, and of course, resonates with your Perfect People.
If you would love to be guided through the process and FINALLY feel the look of your website fits you, then sign up to be front of queue and be first to hear when booking opens for the January 2016 online course.
